SYM makes excellent quality scooters. SYM (Sang Yang Motors) used to actually make honda engines for 40 years. Then they split into their own company (along with Kymco). So they have a LOT of experience making good reliable engines. Theres is a pretty significant difference in the 125cc versions. The obvious is the top speed and the acceleration, but generally the 125cc is going to have a slightly larger frame. With the larger frame will usually come better suspension and maybe a few other small, but important, upgrades. If you only plan to ride at around 35mph tops, then a 50cc scooter will probably be adequate for you. You will get the improved gas mileage and agility (maneuverability). BUT, if you plan to keep up with faster traffic, then the 125cc will be the better choice of the two. Keep in mind that you will sacrifice a little bit of fuel economy and a little bit of maneuverability, but its really worth it.
One last difference to note is that with a 49cc scooter (usually labeled as 50cc), in most areas, it is not required for you to register it. However, most places require registration for a 125cc which is a small added cost. I have heard of a couple of places where it is not required that you register a 125cc either so you might want to check your DMV and ask. Nashville, TN is the one place I've heard of that doesn't require registration for 125cc, but they do require it for 150cc.
Good luck on the decision. Its a fun purchase! Be sure to post up some pics when you get it
